Today we read a book call Footprints in the Snow. We
observed how the different footprints looked and tried to guess what animal
made the prints on each page. My plan was to finger paint so they could see
what kind of prints their hands make. One of the children had an even better idea,
which every child decided to do instead. They used our plastic animals to make
footprints in the finger paint. This is an example of how you can let the
children guide their own work, and it will mean more, and can even be a better
idea than your original plan.

Daily Update - Forest Animals
We started our morning off outside. We knew the rain was coming, and then the cold. We also went out for play time a few minutes early. There will be no going out for a few days. One of our friends brought in turkey feathers to share with us; they were big and really cool. It also fit right in with what we were doing today, painting with feathers! Some of the children even used the big feathers as inspiration and drew their own feather. We also practiced writing our name on the dry erase boards.

Daily Update - Forest Animals
This week our Theme is Forrest Animals. During Circle time we talked about some of the things you might see if you went for a walk in the forrest. We had to take advantage of our beautiful weather, so we went outside on a little nature walk. We took paper and crayons so the children could do tree rubbings. While we were outside we found all kinds of cool things...
A Beetle
Worms
Rocks
Dirt, Leaves, Grass...
"Is this snow?"
How do you get up to those clouds?

We have all missed Miss Carina these last few days! We hope she had a great mini vacation for her birthday, which is tomorrow! Today we made dino-dough and then created our own dinosaur fossils. The kids really enjoyed adding ingredients and stirring it up. I hope you all enjoy your weekend and we will see you on Monday!

Daily Update 1-24-13
Today we all created our own dinosaurs! We had flying dinosaurs, princess dinosaurs and even a dinosaur named Freddy. All the kids had alot of extra energy today after talking about dinosaurs, so we did some fun stick songs in the motor room. At circle time we got to start growing a dinosaur. Be sure to ask your child each day how much it has grown! Today we also got to go digging for dinosaur bones in the sand, we sure did find alot.

Daily Update-Volcano
"How are we going to make a volcano?" That was a popular discussion this morning at CLC. As a group we made our very own volcano out of play-dough. They each got to add their own piece to build it. We learned that to make it explode we had to mix the vinegar and baking soda together. We asked the kids to listen to the noise coming from the volcano. What did it sound like? We had answers like dinner cooking, play-dough and even a geyser! The kids learned that the explosion worked in other containers too, not just the volcano. We even experimented with lemon juice and baking soda! Ask your child what the difference was between the two?

Daily Update - Walking Field Trip
We were so excited to be invited in the building we have been watching for so long. We watched them tear it down, haul it away and then build it back again. The children thought it was pretty cool to actually be able to go inside! We had a special guest for Breakfast! Thank you to our Star of the Week's Papa for joining us! After our walking field trip, we had circle time, and wrote in our journals. We also practiced writing our names.
