Daily Update - Understanding Feelings

To be a good friend it is important to understand feelings.  You need to be able to look at their face and see if they are sad, happy, angry, excited, frustrated… Then you would know if they need a hug, or need a hand, or just want to play and have fun!  We made feeling faces, and at the playground we made bubbles with our friends!

Daily Update Rainbow Fish (sharing)

This week our Theme is Friends.  We will be learning what a friend is, how we can be a good friend, and talking about some of the things we like to do with our friends.  Today we read my favorite book about sharing:  The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.  After we read our book I asked the children, what are Friends for… Building, Playing Horsey, Sharing stuff, Going to my house, playing with the boys, buying a blue tractor, play, Green John Deere Tractors, Playing, and I like to play at my house… I will ask again Friday and see if their answers change at all.  At table time the children were given a fish outline, tissue paper squares, glue, paint, and a piece of foil.                   REMINDER: Book orders are due Friday, August 31st.

Daily Update - I like myself on the inside!

Yesterday we talked about our body parts and things that we can see, our physical self. Today we talked about things that you can't see, but are just as important or even more important, our personalities. So today when they were passed the mirror they were supposed to tell me something they like about themselves, but that they can't see. Here are some of the answers we got: I'm silly, I like to play, I make funny noises, I like that I run fast, I like that I'm a good friend and I like my sister and brothers, I like my giggles, I like that I am 5 and the biggest kid here, and I also got some Noses and Eyes again! For our art activity we went outside and used sidewalk chalk to draw around our body parts and some even drew around their whole bodies!

Daily Update - I like myself

I like myself was the topic of the day.  We read the book called I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont.  At circle time we looked in mirrors and then told the class something we like about ourselves.  Some of the answers we got: My Back, my mouth, my shoes and socks, my tummy, my eyeballs, my hair, my smile, my nose and my shoulders.  At table time we practiced some fine motor skills by cutting pictures out of magazines of people and glued them on a piece of paper.

Daily Upate - Feelings

Happy, Sad, Mad, Angry, Sleepy, Shy, Jealous, Excited, how are you feeling today?  We talked about feelings today.  Most of them said they were feeling happy … Yay!!  We read a book and sang a song about feelings.  We made feeling faces at the table, but most of those turned into aliens.  Got to love those creative brains!!  We celebrated a Birthday today, too!

Daily Update - The Kissing Hand

We read my favorite back to school book, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.  It is a really sweet book and if your child asks you to kiss the palm of their hand tonight it is because of this book.  They may even want to kiss the palm of your hand so you can think of them while they are at school.   We talked about how we felt on our first day of school and then we drew a picture of us on the first day.   If your child comes to school on Fridays there is a homework assignment on a brown paper bag that we sent home today, please remember to bring those back on Friday so we can share them with our class.  We are also sending home book orders that are due by Friday, August 31.

Daily Update-First Day of School!

We have had a great first day of school! We met new friends, played outside until the rain chased us back in. We even did our art time outside. We did circle time, center time, and motor room time. It was mostly a day of getting to know each other! I hope you have had a chance to read the introduction letters that went home today. We want you to be part of our team and look forward to working with you and your children.
