Recycle, Renew, Reuse - Daily Update

This Old Earth
Sang to the tune of  This Old Man
This old Earth
Needs our help
To stay fresh and clean and green
With a pick it up; pitch it in; and throw it in the can
This old earth needs a helping hand!

We recycled newspapers today.  We worked in small groups to cover a balloon with paper mache'. We are making our very own classroom Earth.  We mixed flour and water together to make our paste.  We added strips of newspaper and then smoothed them on the balloon.  Some of the kiddos loved getting messy, others not so much!

Recycle, Reuse and Reduce 4/16/13

Today the kids got to do some of their own recycling! We reused old toilet paper rolls for our art projects! The kids got to cut, paint, color and glue these old rolls. They all really seemed to enjoy talking about what other different kinds of things they could reuse and recycle.

Daily Update 4/15/13

Recycle, Reuse and Reduce! This is what we talked about today. We discussed several different ways of how we can recycle and reuse things. A couple of our kids said their older siblings reuse cans by using them to build castles with. We got to finger paint with green and blue to make our very own Earths!

Daily Update - Farm

We laughed so hard today during Circle Time!  We have a book/puppet called Barnyard Boogie.  Miss Tiffany read it to us, the kiddos (and us) laughed so hard!  I am going to try to get her to let me video tape her tomorrow and post on the blog...
We did a science experiment today with grass.  We planted grass three ways.  Two containers have dirt, we put one outside in the sun; the other container we put the lid on (no sun).  The third thing we did was plant grass with no dirt on a wet sponge and some sun.   We talked about what seeds need to grow, the children helped plant the seeds and then we asked them which grass they thought would grow best.  3 said the sponge (no dirt), 4 said the dirt no sun, and 7 said the dirt, sun and outside would grow best.

Daily Update - Farm

At circle time we are learning three nursery rhymes this week:  Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue, and I Hop on my Horse.  We read a book called Going to Sleep on the Farm.  It is about how animals on the farm sleep, and that brought up a conversation about how we sleep.  Most of the children said they get a bedtime story, and most of them said that mom and dad both read to them!   That makes me happy!!  Good Job mom and dad!!  We plowed in the play dough with our tractors, and painted at the easel.

Daily Update 4/9/213

Miss Colean from the library came to visit us today! She read us two Spring Time stories and did Five Green and Speckled Frogs on the flannel board. The kids love when the ladies from the Library come and see us! We painted and/or colored our very own barns today. Miss Carina got out our barn and farm animals and lots of John Deere tractors!
Some of the pictures are from yesterday :)
