Daily Update - Insects

Our letter of the week this week is I and our theme is Insects. An insect is a bug that must have 3 body parts and 6 legs. I asked the children if they could name some insects and they did this really well... They came up with bee, fly, mosquito, wasp, ladybug, stink bug, ticks and fleas. We read a book called Buzz said the Bee, and played a bee game. For art time the children painted with bubble wrap to create the look of a beehive.
As you all may know we have been working hard on becoming a Missouri accredited Preschool. We had our observation 2 weeks ago and it went really well! We just had a few minor things to fix; the one in our room is for the children to wash their hands when they arrive at preschool. I have talked to the children about it, and this will be something that is harder for us to remember then the children, I'm sure. So, if you could help us remember that would be awesome! When we get into the habit it will be easy, but while it is still new, we all may need a little reminder. Our new routine will be... Hang up backpacks, hugs and kisses goodbyes for mom, dad or grandparents, wash hands, put up your attendance picture at circle and then go join the class. Thank You so much for helping us out with this!

Daily Update - Meet J J (Jaba Jr)

At breakfast today our conversation quickly turned to Jaba, and then to we need a new class pet. They asked can we have a spider, snake, penguin, polar bear, skunk, monkey, rat, whale, after being told no and given reasons why, they decided we just needed a new hamster. I asked them what they would name a new hamster and they said Jaba. I said we already had a Jaba we should think of something else and someone said it should be Jaba Jr. Everyone thought that was a great idea, and I said we could call him J J for short. They all loved it! So, I sent R and C to the office to ask Miss Lynn if we could get a new hamster. She said Yes and said she would call the pet store right now. She went this morning and found us just the right J J. While she was gone the children helped us clean out the cage really good and got it all ready for J J.  We are so proud of this group of children! I wasn't sure when they would be ready for a new class pet, but I'm happy it was so quickly! It was heartbreaking to see how sad they were yesterday and I couldn't stop smiling today watching them work together and seeing their excitement when Miss Lynn walked in with J J. We really have a special group of children at CLC and we are so proud to be their teachers! Thank You Miss Lynn for making 13 children so happy this morning!!

Daily Update-Trick-or-Treat, Party, Funeral, and a Tornado Drill!

What an eventful day! First of all I want to say a HUGE Thank You to the moms, dads, grandparents, and Miss Susan for joining us on our field trip. It was crazy, but worth it! Thank You to the parents that helped with our party also! We love when our families are able to be involved! Now to the funeral, we are very sad to say that our class pet Jaba, the hamster, died last night. We wanted this to be a life lesson for the children, so we sat down this afternoon and talked to the children about it. We shared our favorite memories of Jaba, and then we went outside and buried him. Like our day wasn't crazy enough we threw a Tornado Drill in there too!!

Daily Update - Halloween

We read Happy Halloween Stinky Face If your child calls you a stinky face you will know why, and I'm sorry! We made a Spider Web on our quiet room door, we tried to throw "spiders" on it, but we had trouble getting them to stick. So we just had to stick it on there. Some of the children even made big spiders!
REMINDER: Tomorrow is our Trick-or-Treat Field Trip to the courthouse, don't forget to leave your child's car seat if you are not going with us! Our Party will be from 10:45-11:30. Thank You to everyone that signed up to help with the party!
