Daily Update - Summer Safety

Today we read a book called Your Body Belongs to You Written by Cornelia Spelman.  I copied the parent letter and sent it home today.  This book was very good at explaining where your private parts are (anything covered by your swimsuit) and explaining that those parts should be kept private.  For our activity today we drew around our friends with chalk and then drew a swim suit on our chalk person.  Tomorrow we will be using the book I Said No!

Daily Update - Summer Safety

Today we read a book called Lost!  The children have very good ideas about what they would do if they couldn't find their mommy or daddy!  It is scary to think about, but very important to talk about.  If the child has a plan they are more likely to stay calm and remember what you have taught them.  We worked on recognizing the numbers in our phone number.  They found the right number stamp and then stamped it on to their paper.  We also helped them recite their phone number after they stamped it.

Daily Update - Summer Safety

Our topic of the day was Stranger Danger.  We read a book called Don't Talk to Strangers.  We talked about different situations with the kiddos and asked what they would do.  We also discussed what they should do if they were lost, and the importance of not walking away from our parents.

Daily Update - Summer Safety

This week is all about keeping our kiddos safe this summer! Today during circle time we asked the children what summer means to you... Here are some of their answers: It's warm; Big Surf is open; you can go on the boat and get the sprinkler out; you can go swimming and play on the beach; you can play soccer; you can play baseball; you can play with your shoes outside. We also have some very smart summer safe kiddos! We also asked what is something you should do to be safe in the sun and one child said wear sunscreen and a hat; another said wear sunglasses; and another said wear a lifejacket! All of those are great answers!
