Daily Update - Polar Animals

This week we are talking about Polar Animals.  At Circle Time we read a book about Polar Animals, we sang some fun new songs about penguins, and we are learning a poem about a Polar Bear.  During Art Time we painted with "Snow" Shaving Cream mixed with Glue makes great Snow Paint, or puffy paint.  You can make colored puffy paint by adding some paint to it.  It is best to add finger paint, because it almost always turns into finger painting.  Most of the children love the feel of the shaving cream!  During Gross Motor Time we played in the Motor Room because it is so cold.  The Superheroes were still fresh on their minds... We had a lot of capes and flying around!

This is from last week, but after the newsletter was done.  I wanted to share because it is so cute!

Daily Update - Superhero

We read a book about Police Officers today, and that got the children talking about Stranger Danger.   We talked about what you should do if you get lost and can't find your mommy or daddy.  We also talked about not going anywhere with a stranger.  We have some very smart well educated children around here!  It is always a great time for a refresher course on Stranger Danger, tonight would be a great time for you to do so at home too!  We gave our fine motor muscles a good workout today.  We made superheroes out of play dough.

"A Super Snowman" and "Squidward Spiderman"
"A Dancing Spaceship"
"A Super Face with 4 Tongues"

Daily Update - Superhero

We have been having a lot of fun imagining we have super powers this week!  I also think it is very important for the children to know the difference between a character and a real life hero.  During circle time we looked at pictures of superheroes and real life heroes, the children decided if they were a superhero or a real life hero and we charted them.  During Table Time we did a picture starter, we let the children pick a hero/superhero glue it on their paper and draw a picture around it.  During center time the children also choose to paint at the easel, do some dot painting, and make more superhero masks.

Daily Update - Superhero

Miss Vicky from the Library came in and read two dog books.  They were both really cute, but one of them was awesome!  When Miss Vicky was done reading I said I really need that book!  I will post a picture of it, and if you get a chance read it.  It was cute, funny, and really held the children's attention.  We also continued our talk about superheros and we asked them if you could have a superpower what would it be?  Ask your child tonight and see what they tell you.  I will put the answers they told us at circle time in the Newsletter on Friday.  During Table time we made our own superhero masks.  We also played superheros a lot during center time, and of course on the playground!

Daily Update - Superhero

This week our letter of the week is O and our theme is Superhero.  During circle time we asked the children What is a Superhero? Here are some of the answers...
"A knight in shining armor"
"They can stand on top of the moon."
"He flies, and gets the job done."
"They can climb"
"They jump over the moon like a cow" (We have been doing Hey Diddle Diddle during Circle Time)
"Batman"
"Superman"
We then told the children that there are also real life heroes that help people everyday.  We asked if they could think of someone that helps people everyday?  This is the list they came up with...
Firefighters, Doctors, Ambulance Drivers, Police Officers, Tow Truck Drivers, Mom, Dad, Teachers and Life Guards.
At table time the children drew a picture and told us what they drew.

JJ went on an adventure this weekend!  We had to add tape to his lid because he escaped!  When we found him he had been to the science center and had an acorn in his cheek!

A tower of Lions and Tigers... Oh My!

Daily Update - Happy New Year

That was a fast week!  Breaks are nice and very much needed, but it is also good to get back on a schedule, for the children and the teachers!  It has been fun hearing about all of their exciting news from Christmas Break.  During Art Time today we did some firework painting with kitchen scrubbers and pipe cleaners.
